What do you think about this? I got a Best Buy gift card yesterday and I was thinking about picking this up.

See if you can scrape up an extra 40 bucks, and you can get a TWO gig Extreme III. A lot more for the money!!
It's gonna cost you a lot more to get that extra gig later when you know you'll want it!

Well, the one gig is $110 at Best buy, and the 2 gig is $98 at B&H. But my gift card is for best buy

Use your Best Buy gift card on something else (maybe some CDs or something), and go for the better memory bargain at B&H. No sense getting ripped off on a memory card just because you have a gift voucher for it.

Check out Rob Galbraith's CF database....I've been buying Ultra II's for a lot less money and getting almost the same performance as the Extreme III's. Here is the link

I have few of them and never had problems with them... but on the other side I never had problems with any of my Lexar 1gb cards either, even though they are suppose to be bad
As far as >1gb cards goes I don't have them. I rather have few 1gb more and I feel more comfortable if one goes bad. At least some of shoots are still ok, which is not the case if all is on one card |

Shooting RAW I find that 1 gb cards are a pain in the butt because you are always running out of space. I would never get less that a 2 gb card and all the new ones I get now are 4 gb.
I've never had a problem with Sandisk Extreme CF cards, shooting in very cold and very hot conditions ranging from ski races in Canada to wildlife in the Kalahari. If you don't shoot in extreme temperatures you could save a little money and get the Ultra II version. |
