Recent series of portraits I did for a makeup artists portfolio. All shot at the ladies house. Was particularly pleased as there was literally zero planning and I was involved in the styling too. The Locations were various rooms around the house and bits of fabric held up as backdrops.

So good. I'm arranging a test like this as we speak. I can only hope they look anything like this!

Great job by you and the makeup artist.

What sort of lighting do you use?

Your photos are doing exactly what was intended-- making me drool over the jewelry and makeup :) Well done!

I like to keep my lighting very simple, I'm a big fan of one Light setups.

Look 1 - Elinchrom mini deep octa camera right and white reflector camera left for fill

Look 2 - Mini deep octa again with reflector on the models lap

Look 3 - Elinchrom soft light beauty dish with grid camera right

Look 4 - Mini deep octa camera right with reflector camera left

Simples.

I like the ones where there are catchlights in both eyes.

Too much skin smoothing for me. Looks like a mannequins instead of real persons. The pose in lowest left is not working either, maybe the way the hair and her face is.

These are great but my eye keeps getting drawn to the long, strong highlight along her nose. The shots without this feature work much better.
