Dull light this morning but.......two new ones for me anyway. Not too horrible for ISO 2500.

I was at Slimbridge Wetlands a few days ago. Where I walked into one of the hides there (Martin Smith Hide).
There on one of the posts in front of the hide on one of the sticks/posts was this beautiful female kingfisher no more than 15 metres from me.

I slowly and quietly opened the best positioned drop down window only to find my lens hood would not go through the 5 inch hole. All the windows were of the same small size. Even taking my lens hood off I could still not stick the lens out the window.

With all the commotion and time wasting the Kingfisher flew off. I had lost my chance.

I thought there is no point staying in this hide so I put the hood back on the lens and got my gear ready to leave when I noticed that the kingfisher returned to the same stick.

Despite the partially top and bottom views being cut-off I took several photo's although I was finding it hard to focus.....Surprisingly when I looked at the photo's they were very good and there was no signs of obstructions.

So when there is an opportunity to take the shot what ever the obstacle do not hesitate. I hope you like my photo.
Paul.

Great photo and even a better lesson about always be ready, and take the pic! Thanks for sharing!

At the shoreline this morning. Got pretty close to some of these (6 feet or so on the Sanderling).

Most definitely do. Motto here is "never give up." :-)

Interesting to see that this one is tagged. Since she's been in human hands before, wonder how it may have influenced the way she reacted to your presence.

Thank you..

Slimbridge Wetlands is a Wonderful place to visit. With both Wild and captive birds. There is a hide at Slimbridge called Kingfisher Hide where this year there have been 3 pairs of kingfishers.

https://www.wwt.org.uk …-the-slimbridge-visitors/ (external link)

Each pair have had 2 broods, it is often you see them flying past very low and it very likely this female is from one of these broods and yes I believe your right is use to seeing humans.
