Doing a Project 365 and the subject was sunrise/sunset and as luck would have it, the whole day was grey and rainy...so we head to the local Outback and I ordered a tequila sunrise!

Cross-post from the 50L thread. For what it's worth, they're all primarily lit by light-painting with an iPhone. The exceptions are the backsplash lighting in the Libre and the Collins - both with remote triggered 580II at the lowest setting. Also, for the bottles in the Cuba Libre and Iced Coffee pics I shot a quick back-light blast with a little LED flash light - down the neck for the Gold and from the back 2 o'clock for the Black. Each one was between 4-6 shots combined in PS. The graphics on the can-cups are digital (all three were shot with a blank silver cup.)

I think this is a great start!

On the first image, a lower angle and some better spacing and placement of objects would have helped here a lot. Something about the lighting and the dof makes it look as if each object is photoshopped in. Also if i was you next time i would get a shot youre happy with then move the flash so you dont get the reflection on the background.

Two is real nice apart from that bright area in the bottle, i find it very distracting, i think it would work well in an environmental setting but for something lie this it doesnt quite work. It seems that youre light paining objects rather than a scene, For example the coffee bag on the right It is perfectly lit yet the can next to it has dimension and the light falls off to the edges. There arent any shadows to give it dimension. Also what happened to the reflection of the Bacardi on the can?

The last one is the best of the set but i would have moved that Pellegrino to the right and included their logo seeing as though you have all logos showing. But you have that hot spot from the flash reflecting again.

All in all nice work with just some stuff that are easy fixes!

Awesome critiques! Thanks for taking the time for that. Also thanks for pointing out the missing Bacardi reflection - completely missed that editing at 2 a.m.! :p

The up/down angle is usually the hardest for me to get right and I end up adjusting over and over with no specific intention, haha. I'm inclined to always try for nearly vertical lines, so I start out just about even with whatever I'm shooting. Then I end up realizing that I need something like the ice or an upper-rim in the shot and I end up cranking the camera up until I overcompensate.

What were you thinking re: the dof of the first one? More or less in focus? I personally like the look of the dof in the third shot, but I found myself wanting some more details in the label after-the-fact, so it's a toss up for me.

By the way, if anyone is in the market for artificial crushed ice, I found this stuff (external link) at Hobby Lobby and it did the trick (pretty well IMO) for under 10 bucks.

A social media/listing shot for one of my Amazon listings. I definitely recommend either of the standard Willett Ryes if you're a whiskey drinker.
