when i used to shoot PJ stuff, you learn what can be inprovised. looks like your hand worked fine. ive seen index cards, playing cards, heck even a plastic spoon used to deflect bounced light...

i love this E-TTL function for fill flash. ive found myself shooting with a flash in bright daylight more often then i ever did with film...

it works so well...

Had to use some Bounce flash to help add light to the back row. The stage lights left them almost completely dark.
