In a world where so many people switch camera brands/systems so quickly, I don't believe there's such a thing as "too little too late".

You make a quality product, people will buy it even if they have to switch or switch back.

And Sony may have a lead in the FF mirrorless niche, but Canon has decades of camera experience and a huge catalog of lenses.

Except one major issue. I had the original EOS M. It was a great camera.

However the AF was a major issue. Even worse with the adapter to use my huge lens library. They need a new adapter and major speed boost with the native EF lenses via adapter.

Then I'd switch back. I have an a7r now + adapter with Canon lenses.

I've been waiting 3 years for this. Please make it a good one.

If they can get the power consumption from the DPAF sensor down to acceptable levels to be included in a mirrorless camera, I can see Canon leapfrogging everyone else in terms of mirrorless AF. The implementation of Servo DPAF in the 1DX Mark II is excellent.

This is something I was really excited for but considering the amount of 5D4 leaks with no news of this, I've mostly lost hope :(

In regards to the camera itself, I feel it would be something I would definitely buy. I have the M3 which I have with my EF lenses and it impressed me. People tend to have bad GAS and seem to think nothing of switching brands. So even if it wasn't as feature rich as the A7 line, I could see many people who use the A7X with their Canon glass switching back.

Agree. It's the M5 that will debut (they skipped M4).

I don't get the idea of sticking with the EF mount, why not create an electronically identical but closer to the sensor mount? Then if done properly with the same coding positioning etc they van make an adapter that is dirt cheep to make and sell. All the tube would have to do is pass through the signals to and from the lenses, unlike all the others with the EF mount being all electronic there is no need for motors to AF. If they made them cheep enough they could sell them on for such a low cost that people may but a few to permanently attach to their most used lenses. I just do not get it there is little need for an electronic redesign just a dumb bayonet and if they made that identical the adapter could double as a macro tube. They took the wise but annoying to those of us with large FD kits 30 years ago so why not be clever now.

Yeah, I'd be shocked and appalled if they actually made it EF mount... they already have an adapter like what you're describing for the current M cameras and in my experience it works great.

Making a mirrorless camera with an SLR mount just about defeats the purpose.

I could see them doing it if they were caught off guard and decided they had to put something out RIGHT NOW even though they have not even finalized what the FF mount will be let alone have any lenses available for it.
