I've not seen an official Japan thread in this Travel forum so I thought to start one following our recent trip there.

Nice photos, especially #2!
I've been planning a trip to Japan for a while now and hoping to go next year, where did you go and how was it?

Hello - this was our second trip back. We flew into Kansai Airport then covered Kyoto, Himeji and Nara in the first few days before jetting off to Ishigaki Islands which I highly recommend. We then returned back to the mainland and went to Okayama, Naoshima and Osaka. The whole trip lasted just under a fortnight and the cherry blossom was amazing!

One advice is to consider the Rail Passes which normally pays off dependent on your itinerary. The Japan Guide website was invaluable in providing useful information on all the sites:

The cherry blossoms shot looks great. Wouldn't have guessed that the beach shot was Japan - looks beautiful.

It's all in the details.

Yeah - it was our first time to experience the cherry blossom and now we know why Japanese go crazy every year. The beach shot was on Hateruma Island which is the most southern most island in Japan.

I spent 2 wonderful weeks there....was blown away by how clean, orderly things were. Public areas well designed...Polite respectful people- quite a contrast to North America.

I was recently in Fukuoka to attend my father in law's funeral. I managed to get a few hours to take some photos.
