I just got a pic of Mom 1 and 6 of her baby red foxes, but it appears the den is hosting TWO moms this year, with either ten or 11 babies between them. This Mom is the one that I have photographed in past years. She now knows and recognizes me and is very calm about me being around. The new mom runs away and barks at me, and is very clearly a nursing female. I just hope they both contribute to feeding this mob of babies. Next challenge is to see if I can capture more than 6 in one shot.

Fabulous opportunity and shots Ian.

Sure wish the den I've found local to me is as good as yours, mine is really poor for photography, 5 little ones and an attentive mum, but it's on a busy road and down in a small drainage ditch, you have to be right on top of them to see them, didn't manage to get enough time with the little ones when they were young and curious, now several weeks later they are too wary of me to hang around and it's location means I can't get far enough away for them not to notice or be comfortable with me.

Look forward to seeing your two families grow through your lens though.

Thanks for sharing

Kev

Wow... Beautiful set Ian.

Looks like they are comfortable with you. That's pretty close up, @ only 200mm.

Very nice! :)

Thanks very much Kev, yea I'm fortunate to have this den in a private yet accessible-to-me spot. I have to try NOT to visit too often. The Mom knows me well from prior years, so the babies just do as she says. When she's away, they're underground at this time. WHen she comes back, she goes to the mouth of the den and calls them out with a grunting kind of sound and suddenly it's foxapalooza :).

Thanks Phil, yes the 70-200 is maybe a bit short and I did crop some of these, but just a bit. My 500 is just plain way too long for this spot.

I'd click that I like this, but that would be an understatement - I love it!

Yes interesting Jeff, but I've read that while not a frequent thing, it's not unheard of to have 2 families in 1 den. Good luck with yours! Meanwhile here's a couple more. Oh, by last count there's 13 in this den, but the Moms have split them up into two dens maybe 200 feet apart.
This is Mom #1.

I love #2. Looks like mom is scolding the youngster and he/she is giving her backtalk!
