Don't tempt them. They look like polistine (paper) wasps, like yellow jackets, and they have very painful stings.

No worries mate! I got tagged by a Wheel Bug last year in the same location and a huge lesson learned-finger numb/worthless for over 3 hours. Over a week heal time
and I real that was quick. I'll gladly keep my distance.

Lovely capture. I have seen a few wasps this year, but they are not available for shoots :(

Bas so far I've seen Red Wasps and this black one. I'd like to see a true mud dauber this season.
