WOW!! This thread is great and it confirms that I made the right choice for buying a 70-300mm IS lens today to use at my daughter's soccer games! This is great and I can't wait to get to some games to shoot with it!

I also used this lens for my son's soccer. It worked very well. Because the barrel extends during focusing, it required some time to become accustomed. I found that if I pulled the camera firmly into my forehead, my aim and focus improved. This is similar to steadying your handgun in a two hand grip by pulling with one hand and pushing with the other. I eventually went with the 70-200 f/2.8 because of the frequent night games once he made varsity. But I miss the extra reach of the 70-300. I still have this lens, and when weight is a factor, it'll accompany me rather than the 70-200.

Balb0wa - NICE PICS!! I will be glad when I get my 40d and lenses firgured out enough that I can produce pictures with this quality! I also need to learn photoshop so I can make some of mine sharper! Great shots!
