My nephew has given me his old Canon 300D EOS and I would like to take action photos with it. I'm not after amazing photos, just want okay photos to capture bmx riders doing their thing. Need to know whats the best settings and how to, due to the nature of the sport using flash is a no no.

Some people like everything pin sharp. Others prefer to see some motion blur in the background. Still others on the extreme end, like me, don't mind some blur in the subject. Here are some examples: 30 Action Packed Panning Images (external link)

Look through this thread & the links in it, too: Panning

They are all complete with full EXIF data, so if you want more than the info seen here, follow the links to Flickr and you should be able to see most everything that was done. All the images were Shot in RAW, and they were all post processed in LR4, although they were exported from LR CC, since I have since upgraded my LR version.

Oh I suppose that I should have said that I had the Russian 10D firmware hack installed on my 300D, which enabled me to be able to shoot picture No 4 at ISO 3200, since normally the 300D is limited to ISO 1600. Also if you are confused about photo No 2, it is the same ramp as photo No 4, the opening in the ramp s a fire exit door that had to be let into the ramp, I was laying on my back in the doorway, shooting upwards to take the picture.
