They did a good job with the 24/28/35 IS lenses, does anyone else think it's about time they replaced a few of their other really old lenses ?

..... 20 f2.8, 28 f1.8, 50 f1.4 to mention a few.

They're doing a great job of revamping their L line-up, but how about a few lenses that mere mortals can afford without resorting to selling meth or working in IT ?

I would love to see a replacement for the 135L. It's over 20 years old and is falling behind with the release of Sigma's 135A and Nikon's 105 f/1.4.

I would too and I think they will, but it will be so expensive that I'd probably just ignore it because I'd never be prepared to pay the price. Which has been the case for every new L series lens they've released in the last 3-4 years.

I'm more interested in replacements for non-L series lenses that have been with us 20+ years and will be sold at realistic price levels.

I'm hopeful for an 85 non L announcement. Then by the end of the year we'll be able to choose between a 2017 1.4 L or a 2017 1.8/2.0.

Given the 1.4 has already been rumoured, do you think the non L will be 2018?

Yeah a 20mm 2.8 IS might be a good idea. I don't think a new 28 is needed as people can get the 28 IS (i know, I know, it's slower etc). The 50mm 1.4 definitely needs replaced, perhaps with an IS version. Perhaps just ignore the 1.4 and make an F2 IS macro to replace both the 1.4 and the old macro in one swoop. The 85 and 100 1.8/2 need replaced, another good time to replace them with f2 IS versions.

The 400 5.6 needs replaced.

I would love a 50mm at is as good as the 35 f/2 IS. I have the 50 f/1.8 STM and while it's ok... it doesn't seem to produce anything hmmm special. The photos are sort of devoid of character. At least, this has been my experience, however brief it is. I've only had the 50 STM a few weeks.

Please give me a break. Have you even put a sigma art on a body yet ??

how could you possibly know if that is true

canons 135L is by far one of the best lens on the market. All you have to do is know how to use it. Shutter speeds above 1/200 and there is only 1 other lens that will constantly yield what a 135L can produce in terns of Bokeh and sharpness/ contrast and color......And thats the 200F/2.0 L

135L is Far from falling behind the market in its class.....It continues to be at the top of the list and a primary reason so many canon shooters use it and why so many that have switched to NIKON continue to miss from canons lens line up

I will bet big $$$$ sigma wont touch the 135L especially at $1399.00 and the Nikon 135 is not as good....ask any nikon shooter who has used both products

Agreed. I doubt the Sigma 135A will make a dent on Canon's 135L. I'm an owner of this lens, and still produces magical photos!

I too love the 135. Best lens I've ever shot with and the main reason, along with 24/50L, that I shoot canon

I don't care if it's 20 years old, the image quality is outstanding.

I would vote for a new 400 5.6. While the 100-400 II is great I miss the lightweight 400.

I'd also like to see some affordable, even ef-s only, light weight wide primes. A 14mm 2.8 non L or 16 2.0.

This. This is the only real area where Canon is falling behind. They have excellent L series wide zooms, but almost no choices for non-L wide/UWA primes. The 24/28 2.8 IS lenses are good by all account, but something a smidge faster and wider would be great.

I'd be happy with just a modern update to the 20 2.8, to be honest.

I didn't even know Canon made a 20mm prime. How old is it?

50f1.4, 85f1.8(100f2 along with?) replacements would sell like hotcakes. I've been waiting for replacements with the same level of IQ that I get from my 35F2IS in these two focal lengths w/o costing $900. If Canon puts out a 50f1.4IS and/or 85f1.8IS for $600-700 I will be first in line for the pre-order.

20f2.8 and 28f1.8 and 400f5.6 would be awesome, but they are not large sellers. Which makes me wonder why they haven't replaced the others I mentioned. The 135L and it's cousin the 200f2.8 are already great values but both would benefit with the current IS. For zooms, the ef-s 17-55 would benefit from a new IS system and the newer lens coatings.

The 85 1.8 already sells very well despite being a very old lens, so I'm not sure they'd be in much of a hurry to replace it. It has bad CA, but that's it's only real negative aspect.

The 50 1.4 is aching for an update. It's a pretty miserable lens. Cheap construction, slow AF and not particularly sharp compared to more modern alternatives.

I don't think they'll touch the 100 f2, to be honest.

The 20/2.8 and 28/1.8 are not large sellers because they have to compete against much better offerings from Sigma and Canon's own modern zooms. If they brought up to today's standards I think they'd attract more buyers.

Actually, I think the 50 F/1.4 is a great lens ... although commonly, casually and easily maligned anywhere you care to look. Aside from being a little fragile, it is hard to fault it. It makes great images.

Comment and (constructive) criticism always welcome.
