How do you get on with the 055? as I am thinking of a 055PROB shortly

Hi there. It suits me just fine! I'm adjusting my kit to be more and more "light", so I actually only use my tripod for those low light / night situations. For traveling it's a bit on the heavy side. I guess I could easily do with a 190xbpro.

He he..

That was my latest DIY project for both my light stand and the tripod. Here's the DIY in detail if you're interested:

Hi jhom, nice and simple setup. I have the GM2541 and RRS lever-release clamp. Can you tell me what parts/screw you use to mount your monopod and RRS? Thanks.

Damanl,

How you fix it depends on the lever clamp model, there are at least two versions.

The first has a threaded hole in the centre which will simply spin onto the stud on the monopod.

From your question I imagine you have the same version I have. No thread, but a countersunk 3/8th drilling?

This one requires a bit more work. I bought a small packet of 3/8 stainless countersunk hex headed screws and machined the countersinking angle to match the drilling (non standard), then also machined the head down. Then its a very simple assembly task to remove the monopod stud and replace it with the prepared screw. Remember to use red locktite or similar.

It sounds technical, especially the "machined" bit, but the truth is I used hand tools like files, hacksaws and the like, then finished it with emery paper and metal polish.

Thanks for your info. It is very helpful.

Do you think a bushing screw (like this 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...ing_7_5mm.html) would work?

1. remove monopod screw and plate
2.reduce the monopod thread 3/8" to 1/4" with a bushing screw
3. drop the screw (included with RSS plate) through the RSS plate thread
4. than screw to the monopod

damanl,

Before you rush to buy anything, have a VERY careful look at the treaded stud on your 'pod. It may well already have both the 1/4" AND 3/8" threads sitting inside one another. I know my Manfrotto 694 monopod and 055 tripod came equipped like this. In my case it did not help, but with you it might.

But to give you a straight answer to your question. Yes, it sounds reasonable if you have a 1/4" unthreaded hole in the clamp. I only had a 3/8th one.

Sorry I've not got a clearer shot of the 3/8th C/S head, but hopefully this will explain a little of what I did.

WillOPhotos,

I don't recognise the camera plate. It seems to have an extension under the lens? Can you tell me more?

That extension is a lip that prevents the plate from twisting. http://reallyrightstuff.com/rrs/Item...c=B5D2&eq=&Tp=
