Here are some photos of my son shot with a 85 1.2. It was difficult trying to lock focus on him because he kept moving but it was a fun challenge. He is growing up too fast :D

That's a great set! I wish I was as diligent when my sons were growing up. Se if you can keep going with this.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

This is a cool idea.

Now all you need to do, as Sam said, is keep doing this........for the next 20 years!

Once you have all of those pictures you can assemble them into a movie and watch your young'un grow up in a span of a few minutes.

Remember what the DorMouse said.....feed your head.

Thanks Scrumhalf! Funny you mentioned that because I did stop a little after 12 months. My son is now 16 months and I have to get back into it. He's a runner so I might have to strap him to a chair or something, lol.

Thanks saea501! Like I mentioned to Sam, I kinda stopped so I really gotta get back into shooting him again. Putting together a quick movie of him from these monthly photos would be a super cool idea. Doing this every month until he's 20 would be pretty hard, lol.

Thanks photophile177! I don't have much experience in kids photography. My only experience is with just my son but I've learned a few things shooting him. When doing newborn, try to do it within the first 3 weeks because they just sleep all day. It's pretty easy to pose them without waking them up at that stage. If you're planning to do naked newborn shots, expect pee and poop on set, haha. They pee/poop every 1-2 hours. When my son turned a month old, he woke up easily and was harder to pose. From about 4 months and older, I could get my son to sit still by distracting him with his favorite toy or a playing a cartoon on my phone. That really helped me lock focus on him especially shooting wide open at f1.2. Lastly, I think the lighting is key. I use 3 lights on my setup shots. If you only have one light, use a reflector for your fill. Not sure if you have a light meter but I use one to dial in my lights super fast...no trial/error or guessing for the correct light exposure. This helps save time which you might need.

Great! Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try them. I don't have any fancy camera though. Just a basic Canon 1100d and a nifty fifty!
I'm going to take your suggestion and see if I can get a couple of reflectors/off camera flash. Thanks again.
Excited!!:):)

No problem. I'm sure your photos will come out great. You don't need a fancy camera. With great lighting, your 1100D and nifty fifty can easily put out awesome photos. I know because I used to own a Canon 550D and a nifty fifty. Happy shooting!
