Far be it for me to forget about Avalon.. oh hell no..

Here's a selection of my favourite images from the 5th biggest airshow in the world.

I must say that I wasn't that impressed with the F35, before the airshow, but now having seen one in action and it's full burner takeoff.. my ear drums are still recovering. 40,000lbs of thrust from a single engine.

I spent 3 days in a paddock with friday and saturday being a killer with heat and sunburn.. Sunday wasn't so bad but by that stage I was almost over it :)

Full albums here.. https://www.flickr.com/photos/vladdo/albums (external link)

Anyway, without further ado..

Is that an F1-11? Haven't seen the burning fuel routine in years.

Drinking alcohol never solves anything. But neither does drinking milk.

Man, I loved the F-111. I was a crew chief on them at Nellis AFB, NV back in the '70s.

I have a friend who flew F-111s and he had some great stories to tell. Like the time he and another F-111 dumped fuel at night, at low altitude near Las Vegas, and the police got quite a few calls about UFOs in the area. Or, how about coming down 50 feet over some train tracks at night with a landing light on, then watching the sparks from the locomotive wheels, thinking it was on a collision course with another train?
Another time he was down in the Grand Canyon at night, flying with the terrain following radar when he noticed a green glow off the right wingtip. It took him a while to figure out it was the reflection from the canyon wall about 6 feet from the plane. Sheeee--iittt !! I wonder if the programmers made allowance for whether the wings were extended or retracted.
