Great shots. Thank you for sharing. What focus points do you use?

Great shots. Lots of excellent expressions. The focus in #5 (the players, not yours ;-)a ) really makes the shot.

Great question! For all my shots with the 1D X Mark II and the 300mm f/2.8L IS, I was using all the focus points in Auto servo AF.

All that is necessary is to start the focus on either the head or the shirt of the player and the 1D X Mark II will use all the focus points to continue to track the player. With an excellent background such as with this venue, it makes focusing soooo easy. Forehand, backhand, leaping for a smash, they all track beautifully with minimal effort. I was using Case 1. If you haven't tried this technique for tennis, I highly recommend it! Give it a try. It also works well with the original 1D X. With the 1D X Mark II you can follow along with the camera's display of the active focus points in red through the viewfinder. It really is simple. It's great when you shoot really tight as I often do.

Phil

PS. The description of the technique starts at 2:41 of the following video:

Phil,

That was very helpful, thank you. I will definitely try it. Would you use the same setting for soccer or volleyball as well?

No. It wouldn't work as well for team sports where the object of the focus is changing rapidly and where teammates cross in front of each other.
