I'm thinking of picking up a "lightweight" travel setup by pairing a D810 with a versatile travel lens. Which would you choose, the flexibility of the zoom lens, or the weight of the prime? Any other alternatives? I've been getting tempted by mirrorless options, but have in the past enjoyed the viewfinder of the D700/D3/D300 in the past.

Huh? from what I can see of your signature it looks like you've already got it covered in your Canon and Fuji systems. Pair a 5D4 with an 11-24 and you'll get the same or better results as a D810 and 14-24 IMO.

If you really just wanted to add a Nikon system, I'd pick the zoom depending on where I was going to be shooting.

Yeah, I have everything except the 11-24 f/4. I've been on the fence about it vs. the 14-24mm for the 2.8 aperture. Was wondering if I can add a "smaller/in-between" system with the 20mm as a "mirrorless replacement" for the Fujifilm. Any opinions on the sensor of my 5DIV vs the D810...or just splitting hairs at that point?

Also, I should specify that I have not been very happy with the XTrans sensor in Lightroom / Adobe Camera Raw / Photoshop.

My opinion: for what small improvement you might see at ISO 100 or 64 on the D810 vs the 5D4, you could spend the cash you'd outlay on the new body on an EF mount lens and/or some more perks on your holiday.

I previously had an A7R and it was a pretty darn good. From what I understand Nikon managed to get a little more out of it somehow. I haven't used a 5D4 though so can't give an experienced appraisal. In my experience you need to do a lot more than my meagre skills allow to make the most of the full dynamic range potential of these 13-14 bit DR sensors
