If nobody is buying it, then there's not many to sell used....

If nobody is buying it, then why are there none in stock at dealers?

My guess is that people who don't like the STM lens are people who have not used the STM lens. With the notable exception of weather sealing, it is a better lens all around than the f/4L, version I.

For those like myself who will use the lens outdoors more than indoors, this is a very important exception to note.

I think the whole 'focus-by-wire' thing turns people off. I don't understand that.

I do understand it. Many photographers want total control over their work.

Oops! Forgot to mention that the 24-105II has been recalled. It only affected some copies, and I'm sure Canon has fixed the problem.

If there is a recall, then there is a fix .... thus rendering it a non-issue for the most part.

This is just my opinion but I am actively considering either a 24 - 105 or a 24 - 70 L 2.8.

As to the 24-105, I am considering the Canon L series or the Sigma 24-105 which I hear is an excellent lens more or less equal to the Canon depending on what you shoot.

According to one in-depth tester/reviewer ....
If you are big on video .... Sigma
If you are big on stills .... Canon

I just have to determine if I need that extra reach of the 105.

Well my guess is the reason you see nobody selling one, is because they are good.

If they were not so good, then all the dealers would have them in stock.

Try finding one in-stock that is not pulled from a kit.

Last time a dealer told me they had one, they had to break it out of a kit.

Wasn't there a manufacturing problem with them? Probably an associated halt of production and recall?

Maybe they pulled stock because of the recall...

Focusing issue...but it's only certain serial numbers affected, and i dont think they've announced that they are accepting them for repair yet

Guess they also have a new firmware for it also, but not related to the recall

Odd. Why hold off the repairs after the public announcement?

Probably parts availability. They probably have to wait for parts from Japan.

Visited my supplier last week and spoke about this lens. They had them available but they were taking them out of kits to supply customer demands for the lens. I wanted one, but preferred a retail boxed unit. Ok, call me crazy.

Went in three days ago and they had ONE boxed lens in stock, it had just come in that day. So as I held it in my hands I was speaking to the owner about the focus issue. He said of all the units that left his store, one came back with a problem but the owner admitted the lens had been dropped.

Ended up buying the lens and testing the hell out of it. It's perfect with no focusing issues, no matter how hard I tried to replicate one. Time will tell I guess.

Now I have one more lens to acquire and I will be done with buying Canon gear for the 35mm kit. Looking at the 16-35 f/4 L IS to round out the 5D Mk IV / 7D kit. .... then it's on to moving from film to digital for my medium format gear.

I'm not sure if time will tell on the focus issue...or just the serial number will tell...did you submit your serial number to see if it's affected by the recall?

My .02

The new 24-105mm F4L II is good, but not as dramatically better like say, the 100-400 II is to it's old version.

All I know is there are lots of used gen 1's for sale right now. I just picked up a mint (I can't even tell if it was used more that once or twice) for $450. Yay

I wasn't convinced my 24-70mm F4L was (any or much) sharper than my friends 24-105 L, so I sold it. I would rather have the reach over the macro.
