Sounds like they are not stopping you from downloading; just that they've removed the easy "one click" button that let you do it automatically. So now its a case of doing it one by slow one.

Likely they've had a LOT of traffic of people pulling photos out thus causing a spike in their system; so remove the feature and people start giving up.

You're probably right on the money. Fortunately I did most of my downloads before they made their recent move. That spike in their system is their revenue leaving.

Earlier this month they sent emails promoting 90% off on canvas prints. Today I got one for $80 off. I suspect that the new biz model isn't working.

$40 a month? I doubt it too.

I hadn't visited my accounts for perhaps a year, and this new model is sure to fail.

I've started the arduous and painstakingly slow process of downloading album content then deleting said albums as they're emptied. I'll keep going back to it until I've emptied then deleted my accounts.

Fortunately, Flickr hasn't dumped a huge load of crap over their users(yet), even for unpaid users.
I'll be uploading to them once I clear out the PB accounts.

Honestly, I truly can't imagine how PB thinks they're going to "attract" paid subscribers when they've so thoroughly revolted current users with their very shady & highly questionable, almost morally-reprehensible changes.

Time spent on retrieving content: Unknown. Lots.

16 folders/subfolders left to go.
Primary/first account.
Some of that won't make it back to my computer, as it was superfluous.

Fortunately, my secondary account isn't nearly as loaded with content.
That should be a much shorter ordeal.

Photobucket has GOT to be telling themselves by now that they're in the doghouse,
or they're setting up for a completely different venue which doesn't involve
people sharing out photos or even being account-holders.
It wouldn't surprise me if I start seeing some of my photos in advertising, or pimped
out to any number of other websites.

Something more than a change in advertising sources is going on, I'm fairly sure,
but I'll be damned if I know what it is. I'm reminded of a time years ago when
a radio station did something similar. They broadcast an announcement for days,
saying nothing more than "It's coming!." They then broadcast a 48-hour period
of everything, to include hard rock, jazz, easy listening, doo-wop, elevator music,
show tunes, movie soundtracks, talk, opera, punk, acid rock, grunge, folk, etc...
The so-called 'huge' revelation at the end of it all was to announce their change
from an album-rock format to country music, which dumped their listenership
and ratings into the toilet bowl. This change with Photobucket feels eerily similar to me.

Now I get emails that they're selling water filters and liquid water repellent.

Someday, if they survive, they might even get into something exotic, like photography?

I doubt they'll survive this, Frank.
What have they got to stand on?
It's surely not photo sharing anymore.
Maybe they've become a new adserver on the intarwebz?

Oh, and please don't repost the advertising links here, Frank.
It just compounds their foolishness.

Good point, I'll remove them!

They're selling water filters? Liquid water repellent too? Yeah, they're done...

Maybe I should start downloading my files. I had a quick look a while ago but did not see how to do that. I'll look again tomorrow.

They don't make it quick anymore.
Best you can do is view each one, right-click, 'save as...'
As mentioned above, arduous and painstakingly slow. vmad

They're making it painstaking hard for their customers to bail out apparently. What a class act, or not. :-(

Since I'm jumping ship from this atrocity, are there any free hosters still usable
which provide a fair amount of disk space AND pass along EXIF information with images?
That was something that actually attracted me to PB so long ago, but Flickr and imgur
both withhold EXIF.
