Hi there. I've been searching and searching but haven't been able to make up my mind.
I shoot a 5d (mk1) and am still quite happy with it, so there's no 'upgrade' planned, period.
I own 3 lenses - 35 f2 IS, 50 1.8 II, and 85 f1.8. The 35 is on the camera 99% of the time, and I've really grown to appreciate it as a 'do it all' lens. I shoot everything I can with it, but I'm looking for more unique shots (bokeh!).
I shoot everything from landscapes, cars, people, architecture, and so on.
The comparisons I've read are all over the place. Some say the 35 f2 IS is just as good as the 35L (V1) or better - some of those say the Sigma Art is the way to go, while others maintain that the V2 35L is the only upgrade. Others say the old 'L' is still in a different league and beats out the f2 IS. Frankly I think I've read so much I've become even more confused, lol.
Here are my thoughts. Eventually I want a 35L, 85L and 135L. If I were to buy the 35L V1, I'll keep the 35 f2 IS and put it on my 35mm Rebel. OR I could trade in the f2 IS and get the 35L V2.
Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Here's a few examples of what I like to shoot.
I do like to shoot with a shallow DOF, but I find my current 35 best at 2.8.
I do use the IS, though without it I'd just crank the ISO I guess. I have noticed recently the IS motor is noisy when it's cold. Not sure if it has any effect on its functioning. Hard to tell at 35mm on a FF.
