This thread is for discussion of the Godox SL Series LED continuous lights.

Godox has developed an LED continuous light source series which has a surprisingly high CRI rating, a very high TLCI rating and a respectable R9 index. The pricing is reasonable. The number seems to be the actual Watt draw of the LED (LED lights are substantially brighter than tungsten by about an order of magnitude, give or take). The mount is the universal Bowens mount. There are daylight and tungsten versions available (referred to as "white" and "yellow").

To be clear, these will not replace what a flash can do.

There are a number of good reasons to prefer flash in some circumstances and to prefer continuous light in other circumstances.

I do not (yet?) own one.

Because of the combination of light quality, universal mount, price and power, I predict this series is worth watching.

A useful (if slow) general overview of the SL-100:

Towards the end he has a test he performed with a similar reflector and grid which he performed with the Godox 360 and SL-100 where he determined that with a SS of 1/60th the SL-100 set at 100% (highest power) and the 360 set at 1/64th (lowest) the exposure was the same, an interesting data point.

This SL-200 unboxing video has some other useful points:

At this point, Amazon appears to have better pricing

A reviewer who became less enthusiastic because he added an SL-200 to his SL-100 and discovered a significant color discrepancy. It isn't clear if this is a general problem or a bad unit (personally, I would have sent it back--given the CRI and TLCI ratings, I suspect it is an anomaly. Time will tell).

I have seen comments going both ways on the fan, including a reviewer who complained one model was good but a more powerful model was not. I'm not sure if some reviewers are more particular or if some units are better than others or what.
