Hi everyone

I just took these photos of my friends daughter. I'm still very new at editing and am hoping for your thoughts on this edit. I was wanting to get a bit of a dramatic look. You know how it goes...the more you look at a photo you've been working on, the more you second guess yourself! My biggest stumbling block and concern is always when I'm playing with skin tones. I'm never sure if I'm in the ballpark with the right tone, or way out in left field. I see so many beautifully edited portraits on this site and am hoping to be that talented at some point. Thank you in advance for any inputs...good, bad, or indifferent...lol

The replacement of the sky is obvious especially on the left side. You need to be more precise in the selection of the subject. What program did you use?

It's not just on the left. There's a halo all around.

The best way to select your subject here is a channel mask, because behind the subject is an almost white sky. Should be easy and most accurate, down to the finest hairs. If you don't know how to make a channel mask just google it. There's a ton of tutorials for it. Don't know if it can be done in PS Elements though.

OK thank you. I will google it and see if I can do it in elements. Some things are limited in that program but I will see if its possible to do. I see that I did it in a primitive fashion. On to channel masks and stepping up my game. :-)

Another thing to do is to make sure you color tone her to match the background.
One way to do this is to duplicate the new background and apply a heavy gaussian blur to it and only apply it to her w/ a soft light or overlay style. This makes her match the colors better.
