Around here, I had envisioned a bird in a roasting pan. Sorry, i couldn't help myself.

Interesting bird. Looking in my bird book (without recipes) I see that NC is in the summer, winter and migration range for these guys. I'm not a birder, but I do enjoy finding new-to-me species. Heck, I'm still trying to get a good shot of a Painted Bunting. Work seems to trample on opportunity, but work supports my habits/hobbies. I'll have to take this as a challenge. Thanks for sharing.

thanks for your comment! They tend to spend summers here in Maryland and while seldom seen , can be heard because they scream "teacher, teacher" from their cover in the woods.
Local banders reported a young Painted Bunting in their mistnets two years ago - I'd love to see one also.
