The new series of Star Trek features a giant version which got me interested in these creatures. Apparently adults can reach 1.5mm which is larger than many collembola so I'm surprised I haven't seen one. Moss and lichen are stated to be good environments to look for them.

I have looked for them but not spotted one yet. Certainly not as big as the one on star trek :)
I think they are fairly transparent which would not help see them
