Hi all

One of my 5D3's has made aprox. 450.000 clicks and is still going strong. But somehow it doesn't feel right to keep it much longer.
It may fail someday probably, and it maybe tomorrow.

I can get € 1050 for it and I would like to buy a new 6D mark 2 instead. A 5D4 is too expensive.

What would you do? Keep the 5D3 and replace the shutter when it fails or get rid off it and buy new technology.

Since it is only one of your 5D3s, keep it along with the others. Maybe it will do another 450,000 clicks.

I'd just replace the shutter, and keep shooting it for another 150~200k or more. If your original shutter hit 450k, you have a very good copy of the body. And you have two for a reason, so you can keep shooting as the shutter is replaced.

Very best,

€1050 for a 450.000 click camera, what are you waiting for? There are 5DIII for sale here some as low as $1000 ~ $1200 with grip and a whole lot less actuations. I know things are more costly on the other side of the pond, but that sounds like a fantastic deal for you.

I would sell it and and put the money toward an upgrade, and yes toward a 5D4. I don't see where the 6D2 is an upgrade over the 5D3, quite honestly. If your only option is a 6D2, then keep the camera and just budget for a shutter replacement should it ever happen.

Who is the lucky buyer buying a 5d3 with close to 500,000 shutter counts, for over 1k euros??? :) :) Your best option is to pay for the shutter replacement and to resell it later...or to continue to use it.

Do you do video? If so then sell the 5D3 and get the 6D2. If not then I'd keep using it.

That is a pretty wide statement, shutter replacements could be very expensive. There isn't one set price for that service.

The model matters little. There isn't 1) a single published international price for replacing a shutter and 2) cheap is subjective.
