OnOne, Capture One, such confusing names. Do they do this on purpose?

Sounds like this One would be worth trying out. It is "a great alternative to Adobe Lightroom", says so right on their web page.

There is no single "they". Phase One company makes Capture 1 Pro. On1 company makes Photo RAW 2018.

I reviewed all the information. Not previously knowing of On1 Photo Raw 2018 I do find it very interesting. I will sign up for a 30 day trial after the thanksgiving holiday. I've grown old and tired of the Adobe CC model and more specifically tired of their record profits when I still deal with a slow performing program yet I have done everything to ensure it's speedy.

I'm ready for a perpetual alternative. I'm not a pro and the pricing on this software is right and so far from what I can see the interface is something I can get use to. I need to play around with it but I'm very much liking it.

My only question is will buying once will I be able to install on my home computer and then my work laptop, I use it when I travel. How many installs can this be for? Would I be able to use it 3 times so my wife can use it?

Edit: Also I'm not huge on photoshop... never have been but Lightroom is perfect for my needs... This On1 software seems to incorporate the necessary photoshop items I would use all into one program. This is a huge plus for me. I just want the one organization/editing type program and I hate how I can only scratch the surface to photoshop and the rest of the features are beyond my grasp.

My entire hobby of gear lust has temporarily been shifted into overload. Please be patient while my mind tries to get back onto the road to recovery. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause....

Ya Seem a no brainer for me. I've literally opened photoshop maybe 3-4 times this year is how seldom I use it. Can't wait to try it for free but not going to do it now since I'm fixing to take a 10 day vacation.

On1-> turtle
LightRoom -> horse
Capture One -> cheetah

Used all of them... Preferring Capture1 for its speed now.

I have them all and use them all: Capture One Pro 10, DxO Optics Pro 11 Elite, DxO Photolab Elite, ACR and Lightroom.

Speed is only part of the package.
C1 at least for me is not the best at colors ( especially skin tones).
Honestly don't know, why such a hysteria about this software. Does not worth 300 US$ in my book.

I must try ON1.
