Dan (rvnomad) started a thread almost 2 years ago about his new G5 X but it fizzled out 2 months later, that's a pity. I debated whether I should revive it but decided it would be better to start a new one where G5Xers can discuss this fantastic little camera and post some of their latest shots or discuss any G5 X issues.

I got my G5 X just over a month ago. Initially I had a problem with auto-focusing but after settling for a single AF point instead of a cluster my photos were all perfectly focused.

Here is a small sample of my shots so far.

I'm awaiting delivery of a refurb G5 X and have a question. Do you know the diameter of the lens? Specifically the part with the labeling on it. I'm hoping the magfilter from my G15 will be able to be used on the G5 X. Thanks.

Let me know if it woks. BTW, I have been looking for a lens-hood for the G5X ever since I bought it but there isn't one that I can find.

Cheers

Looks like any of these will work:
-52mm / 55mm / 58mm filters for use with the following camerars:
Sony: RX100 I, II, III, IV/ HX9V / HX20V / HX30V
Canon: G12 / G15 / G5 X

https://mogopod.com ...ter-threaded-adapter-ring (external link)

These are great for P&S cameras.

Thanks - but I don't think I'll risk importing from China.

Very well.
I've been using it for several years on my G15 with great results. I wouldn't hesitate to order another if my current one doesn't fit on the new camera.
Having the ability to add a polarizing filter is a good thing.

Received my refurbed copy today. Kinda bummed that if I use my old "G" hotshoe cover it won't allow the flash to fire. Is there a way to defeat that? I like having the hotshoe covered from the elements unless needed. Plus with a remote mounted there if I wanted the flash to operate it wouldn't.

Other observations compared to the G15-rubber cover instead of an actual door for the inputs, battery/SD door doesn't snap shut, it takes moving the open/close to make sure it latches.

Sorry, can't answer that

Could not agree more. The door/flap on my old G12 is much more positive.

So I found a work around for using the flash with a remote on the hotshoe. On the left side of the hotshoe is a metal pressure strip. Below the strip is the switch that tells the camera if something is mounted. For the remote I just slide it til I see the flash icon dissappear and then back it off a little bit. I'll get a hotshoe cover and cut the left side off to the point that the switch is not pressed down.

Here's a couple pics. The second one just showing off the red from the Magfilter and the red on the dials.

Quick question I should know the answer to and am unable to find in the manual. On my old camera the focusing reticle would be green when in focus. On the G5X it is sometimes green but lately mostly blue. Why one or the other?

Edit:
I think I figured it out. The blue shows up if shooting in servo mode instead of one shot. Figured best not to delete the question in case someone else was wondering.

I am happy with the results - without a lens hood.

BTW, both are HDRs from bracketed sets of 3 exposures

That is correct.
