Looking for Strobes for Product Photos

I need to take some photos of the products we make at my work. I got the OK to buy some strobes but I'm not really up to date on any of the strobes out.

I have never owned big strobes, only multiple Speedlite's.

Right now im looking at the Einstein's but open to recommendations.

Then what would be the best softbox for something like this? I usually just put a big spool of white paper as my back drop.

Any other tips would be much appreciated.

Safety gear like shoe wear, but would also like to be able to do some car photography with them. Dont really have a budget, but profoto's are out of the price range. Not really sure on power, thats why i was kind of thinking the Einsteins due to have pretty good color consistency across all power levels.

In this day and age I would never go with Einsteins or Alienbee. PCB unfortunately has done a horrible job of keeping up with trends and the fact that you still need cords and have to use their terrible mount is unacceptable IMO, especially at their price.

If you have a high budget, I would go for Profoto B1 or B2, as their color consistency is the best for product shots. If your budget is not as high but still want amazing quality, look at the Godox AD600 lights or AD200 if you're not shooting in large spaces and / or are on an even tighter budget.

Studio strobes last a very long time...I would not purchase products for which there is no official post-sale service and parts facility operated by the manufacturer/distribut​or.
At least Buff products have parts and service, unlike a number of products of Far East origin.

I have an AB800 and a DB800 (which I really REALLY like) and with the release of the CyberSense remote, I can control both remotely at half the cost of the Cyber Commander. I like my Buff stuff, but that being said I did drink the Godox Koolaid and picked up some Flashpoint Evolv 200's and accessories, which is a really cool system, almost too easy to be true.

And Buff service is great.

Basically any unit from a 'known' manufacturer will be suitable for product photography, with the benefits of digital photography and software manipulation in post, it's more about your knowledge of how light works than the type of strobe you use.

Godox is not the new PCB. They are very different companies. If they are like anyone, they are more like Profoto on a budget. If I could only have one strobe from them, I would probably pick the AD600. It's more of a "do it all".

I used to shoot AB/Einsteins and now have Godox but for products or even otherwise, why does it matter if there is a small cord between your strobe and the battery? or cord to the AC outlet in the wall? I shoot even my Godox as pack & head and so much better than sticking AD600 on the light stand and my stands are nice $200-$300 range ones. I haven't tested pop to pop and color consistency of Godox but Einsteins have been very good in that regard.

Worry less about the brand of strobe than the modifiers you needs. Any bare bulb strobe of sufficient power will do what you ask of it for this job. The product won't look any different from one brand or another but the quality of light from a soft box, umbrella, or beauty dish will.

Some decent Flashpoint Studio series are nice, with Bowens mount, and built in R2 receiver. Inexpensive, good lights. Buy a couple. And get an R2 transmitter (like the R2 XPro (external link)) for the camera (this one R2 transmitter talks to all the strobes without anything extra, they're built into the strobes). If something goes wrong, Adorama will make it right (good customer service). From there, add some good heavier light stands (these are good and inexpensive booms (external link)).

Get creative with large modifiers, you can explore some 7 foot parabolic umbrellas (external link). You can also make large PVC frames and put white sheets on them and hit them with the strobes.

Maybe pick up a cheap little Sekonic light meter, $200 or less.
