Hoping it's true and ready to put my money down for a slot if it is. http://www.canonrumors.com …g-first-half-of-2018-cr1/ (external link)

10 years ago I was rock solid and did not need IS on the 135L. It's only been in the last couple of years, since turning 50, that I have wished for IS on my 135L and 200L 2.8 II. Both the 135L and 200L 2.8 II lenses are awesome and rather cheap to buy the way they are so I am sure Canon is having a hard time trying to justify adding IS which will definitely dramatically increase their price and lose potential customers who are looking for cheap L lenses. I am not a marketing expert but possibly Canon could produce both IS and non IS versions of these two lenses like they are doing with the 2 85L versions. I would definitely pay the price to upgrade both my 135L and 200L 2.8 II lenses to ones with IS if they become available. I am planning on replacing both my 85 1.8 and 85L II with the 85L 1.4 IS as soon as it becomes readily available. That should hold me over till the 135L IS becomes available.

I have never been rock-solid. Caffeine, nerves, recreational pharmaceuticals, being 60, whatever the cause, I am not a steady person. That said, I have no problems shooting the 135L and 200L II without IS. But, I don't mind using my flashes, and/or pushing the ISO. That works well for the 135L. My 200L II is mostly an outdoor summer cookout candids and sports/athletics lens. I rarely shoot it slower than 1/400 anyway. IS isn't going to help me a bit, on either. I have IS zooms, if the need arises.

Things is if you the one shooting with strobes being stuck at 1/160 can be a pain if you are not steady like me. Canon never had problems selling much more expensive 70-200mm f2.8 IS II so I don't buy 135L getting too expensive with IS and folks not buying it. Canon only doing it now due to so many folks moving to Sony due to sensor and IBIS and Sigma having that 135mm f1.8 Art lens.

You have something that works for you in your specific situations and just a couple of years ago my setup was working well for me too but? Times change!

I have numerous reasons for wanting the IS L primes for still and video. Those reasons did not exist just a few years ago but they do now. Good thing Canon and I are thinking alike. Just wished they'd hurry up about it!

If I could trade out every one of my L primes for ones with IS I would do it in a heart beat. As soon as I am able to get my hands on the 85 1.4L IS lens both the 85L II and 85 1.8 lenses will be sold. If the 135L IS or 50L IS, both in the rumor mill, come to fruition I will be first in line. Would love to trade out my 24L II for one with IS as well so keeping my fingers crossed.

I do use IS, rely on it in fact. It may be more 'I work within the limitations' of non-IS longer lenses. I wouldn't consider trying to use my 85, 135, or 200 at 1/30s or something like that. If those lenses HAD IS, I'd be able to use them in a wider variety of settings. I just don't want to PAY for new IS primes. I'm cheap I suppose.

Not to put down any rumors, but anyone who has real information on this has probably signed a pile of NDAs (nondisclosure agreements).

Kinda of like nobody from the FBI or NSA is leaking information to the press because it is a felony?

You have to take any rumor with a grain of salt but it seems recently, in part anyways, that Canon is reacting to what Sigma does. So I am uping my salt intake, with the recent release of the Sigma 135 f1.8 lens, hoping that the rumor of a Canon 135L IS lens sometime in 2018 is more fact than fiction. In the mean time I will sell my 85L II and buy the 85 1.4L IS lens and use it in lieu of the 135L when those situations arise where I would want IS.

Can anyone make an educated guess what the msrp will be on th mk II 135mm f/2?

I have a feeling it will be $1,500-1,600 and if that's the case I should buy the mk I version used.

Canon 6D and SL1/100D.

that would be my guess as well. Shooting a stabilized 135 f2 is an absolute pleasure.

The new 85 1.4L IS is $1599 and the current 135L is $999 so I am going to guess the 135L IS will be $1199-$1299.

$1199-$1299 is a good price. It can't be that much-more expensive than the Sigma 135mm f/1.8.

Whos kidding who

Sigma is kicking Canons Butt in the 135 Class right now and the used market is flooded with 135L's

But I think canon should see whos really buying that siggy

My guess is its mostly Nikon shooters

There is nothing wrong with the current 135L. In fact its still one of canons better lens in my opinion

all you need to do with the 135L is keep a shutter at 1/160 minimum

I for one WILL NOT be rushing out to get one of these new 135's

Especially after the new 85 L release

In my opinion, there is nothing much to change on the optics design of the EF135 f/2L.
maybe some update on the coatings and nano coatings and the mechanical design to give it a modern look.
