80% of the world’s population can no longer see the Milky Way. What do we lose when we lose sight of the stars? Excessive and improper lighting robs us of our night skies, disrupts our sleep patterns and endangers nocturnal habitats. The current advances in LED technology have enabled several cities to safely light their streets and save energy without disrupting the nighttime environment. Saving The Dark explores the need to preserve night skies and what we can do to combat light pollution.

Created in association with the International Dark-Sky Association.

So very sad... but true.

I bought my property specifically because its a dark site and will always be a dark site until the refuges are lifted and the land rights sold. I literally bought my property and house to have dark skies. And if I ever move it will also be to a location with dark skies (with promising future of dark skies). I can plainly see the milky way nicely at night. But again this is why I live where I live (West coast central Florida, surrounded by refuge land and there's no real cities from Tamp to the panhandle really).

It really does matter though. I've lived in cities with no skies.

Then again, fewer and fewer people care what is happening above their heads, let alone things much farther than the little screen on their phone that they're glued to.

Very best,
