I am looking for ideas to shoot the January 31st full moon at either Arches or Canyonlands NP. Specifically looking for a shot of the moon setting. I would welcome your thoughts.

Tom

https://www.google.com …_AUICygC&biw=1366&bih=675 (external link) will give you a lot of sample shots for Arches and https://www.google.com …_AUICigB&biw=1366&bih=675 (external link) will do the same for Canyonlands.

As a point of interest (for Arches) the full moon is on January 31st and the moon will rise at about 6:08 PM at a bearing of 70 degrees relative to North. You specifically mentioned "moon setting' and I'm not sure if you want that on January 31st or the morning of February 1st. Go to https://www.timeanddate.com/moon/@5534542 (external link) and check the moon rise and moon set times. Change the month to February if setting on the 1st is really what you want.

Details on the eclipse can be found at https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/usa/moab (external link).

If you are thinking of a night "tour" run by a commercial firm see http://intothenightphoto.blogspot.com …?_sm_au_=iWHGND4HPt5PWLRM (external link) which discusses night photography for commercial groups. It is more about a ban on light painting but be aware.
