I know you already decided to hire someone to do it, but below is my setup that works for white on white. The object is suspended on plexiglas in front/over a whiteish background. The background is lit to ensure I get clipping.
The background light was not turned on in the first photo below. In the second photo the background light was turned on giving me a nice white background and showing off the cream colored carbon monoxide alarm. Note that both these photos were straight out of the camera with no adjustments in Photoshop/Lightroom. It would be very easy to clean up the second one to eliminate the line where the plexi ended.
