I wonder how important this is to other photographers building galleries? I use wordpress for my website and have used both NextGEN Pro and Envira Pro gallery plugins. These are arguably the most used galleries for those with Wordpress sites. Amazingly, neither package has an effective solution to address my title.

While I'll shoot just about anything I most enjoy concert photography. My typical tagging routine at LR import includes

concert (or) festival, year, venue, band name, custom

where 'custom' may include additional unique identifiers. Also, quite often individuals are included "Willie Nelson", "Phil Lesh". The point is, I'm pretty consistent because I hate to look through thousands of photos to find the one I want.

Those selected for publication are uploaded to WP, a gallery is created for each show. Within the galleries, both Nextgen and Envira show the tags associated with each photo. The thing is, these tags have limited use, because they don't translate to Wordpress taxonomies, and neither product provides a solution for reading this data and presenting and interface to make use of it. Envira chose to include tags within a gallery but the search scope is limited to that gallery and not to all photos.

This seems so rudimentary, so necessary to me that I wonder, am I unique? Why wouldn't we extend findability in our online portfolios to the same extent we have it in our processing workflow? I dream of the day when Rolling Stone, Relix or Spin can come to my website looking for their next cover and actually finding it. Maybe I'm weird.

Thoughts? Workarounds? Any taxonomy converters out there I can recode?
