Smile The one called Gelada...

Gelada Baboon ( Theropithecus Gelada )

These guys are called the Ethiopian highlanders.
Gelada baboons are found only in the highlands of Ethiopia and Eritrea.
A majority of gelada baboon populations live in Gich and Sankaber areas of the Semien Mountains National Park in Ethiopia.

Gelada baboons are found inhabiting the high grasslands of Ethiopia and Eritrea, especially in the Semien Mountains National Park.
Geladas prefer to sleep on rocky cliffs,(its a great way to avoid intruders like the Ethiopian wolf) from which they descend in the morning to go foraging in the nearby grasslands.
Most of the gelada populations are found foraging in grasslands between 2,000 and 5,000 meters (Stammbach, 1987).
This is a terrestrial species and is very specialized to this particular habitat.

Unfortunatly, although i spent 45min with him,no way he would turn his head around for a nice portrait shot.
He is probably too shy.

Nice shot Dimitri, direct eye stare is a threat to primates, generally they will try to avoid it.

Nice shot - got any curling their lips? They looked very freaky when they do that.

When I first looked at the shot I thought it was a female holding and shielding her baby ( that tiny bit of pink I thought was the top side of head and end of an ear) In any case a pensive sort of mood.. and the detail and exposure are spot on , Its the type of photo that causes me to think and wonder. I had not heard of this species before...very nice Dimitri!

Great capture Dimitri!

I too know what is like waiting and waiting for the subject to cooperate with the right pose/look. You did an exceptional job with what was presented. I like this one as it is!

Awesome capture Dimitri. Very nice colors/contrast, and very sharp. See, the loud 20D shutter would have been helpful to get his attention. LOL!
