That an upgrade to a 20D would be worthwhile from a 300D. I've outgrown my current camera, but what features does the 20D have that the 300D doesn't or where does the 20D shine. I need help convincing my parents! NOTEI'm paying for the camera, they just are controllive of what I spend my money on.

Why not just go for the 30D?

Looks like you need to do some researching
Both Google and the search facility on this site are your friends... In what way have you outgrown your 300D?

I can honestly say that for $1000, you can really buy stuff. A new camera is a big investment. The reason why your parents don't want you to is because $1000 is a lot of money. How long did it take you to accummulate it? My 18 year old just got a job that pays $10/hour. It would take him 150 hours to be able to afford that camera. If you look at it that way, your parents are doing a good job.

The reviews at dpreview.com would be a good place to start.

Wait a second, here is a question that is missing (Calgaryphotographer, I don't want to mind your business, but you asked something and this need further investigation, feel free not to answer, of course).
How did you got the necessary money in your hands ? Is that money your parents gave you (i.e. weekly pay or whatever its called in your part of the world), or you earned it working part time somewhere ? If its your money, and you sweated for it, I do believe that - unless its needed to help the house (it happened to me when I got my first job) -you have all the rights to buy anything (legal!!!) you want with it. Otherwise, your parents may have a point.

Absolutely, I have worked for every cent of the money I have spent on photography, and all the money that will be put towards my 20D will be money I've earned. Thanks!

What are you shooting? Maybe post some of your work here. Only you know all the reasons for wanting the upgrade, but some of the pros here can tell you if you are being limited by your present gear.

Both my sons got new laptop computers for school from my sister, who is retired with no children. I thought they would be spoiled with them, but they have actually been very sensible and have not asked for any upgrades. My oldest son got his own accessories and is very grateful his aunt is so generous. I think teaching your kids to be hard-working is a very wise investment. Your parents should be very proud of you.
