Talking Results: Landscape and Cityscape photographer of the year

This is yet another example of the stunning quality of the work in this forum. There were a very large number of entries, but three photos clearly came through as the winners. These are:

1st - #36 "Millenium Bridge, Newcastle" by neil_r
2nd - #32 by UncleDoug
3rd - #6 "BeamWalk" by elTwitcho

Congratulations all!! Neil will receive an 18x27 print of his winning entry from UncleDoug who is very kindly sponsoring the event.

Tee Hee! Uncle Doug nearly had to print out his own photo and send it to himself.

Well done to all 3 of you in the placings and don't forget us newbies who entered just for the hell of it.

I am so damn flattered, thanks everyone. And I certainly don't mind placing behind the two that beat me, those shots were incredible.

Thank you Doug, I'll gladly share what there is to tell.

That shot was part of a project I'd decided on to showcase the Don Valley Brickworks in Toronto. I'd always intended to shoot it at some point, but I heard that efforts to tear it down and build some government project in it's stead were accelerating and so I finally pulled the trigger on going down to shoot it. It's this amazing historic building that was built before the first world war and produced most of the bricks that put the city of Toronto together. It's been vacant since 1985 or so and has been decaying ever since.

The "hallway" in the photo is actually the walkway inbetween two brick ovens, of which there are several that stretch on for quite some distance. The lighting was provided by places where the metal roof had rusted through to let in beams of sunlight. So I composed the shot, and did the final step of running up and down the corridor to kick up dust, while the dust was still in the air and catching the beams of sunlight, I tripped the shutter. Really surprisingly, that shot required almost no post processing work to get looking that way, the scene itself was exactly like that and it was truly awe inspiring to see.

That must have been too cool, being in that old building with light like that.

IT has that HDR quality to it. Excellent shot! And keep on entering contests.

Very interesting Rich. Fantastic- some pre-processing but hardly any post-processing.
