I just bought my first Canon A70 and noticed that the camera in the box wasn’t sealed in the plastic bag & the user guide manuals were in a zip-lock type bag. Also there were not any stickers, as the one they have displayed in the store, on the front of the camera. The stickers on the camera basically tell you that the camera has 12 shooting mode, resolution, video/ audio mode etc. I asked the store manager @ Visions to confirm that indeed this is a brand new camera and all the sales people said Yes. I asked them to bring out of the warehouse a few more boxes. I checked and the rest didn’t have any stickers either. I went to another store FutureShop aka BestBuy and they showed me a brand new camera out of the box and it had stickers. I got a good price on the camera $434.00 CND but I feel paranoid now that this camera has been previously used. Please tell me if it is normal for the camera not to have stickers on it, when brand new. I don’t think canon would put stickers on some and not others. Thank you. ned

Contact the proper department at Canon and see what they have to say about it.

I agree with the one above, sales-people will throw any kind of story at you.
Canon will know the answer and if these people r stuffing you round canon can sort that out aswell. Hope u get a reward if they are. |

Hi,
I also just purchased an A70 from a Target store in Clearwater, Florida and it had no stickers and was not sealed in the plastic bag. I too am now paranoid that I have a returned camera on my hands. Although when I looked at a review of the A70 at Stevesdigicams the pictures they show have no stickers on the camera: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/a70.html but if you look at the A60 review it does have those stickers on the camera: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/a60.html Could it be that Canon does put stickers on some and not on others? I surely would like to know and will try to reach someone at Canon and reply back as well. |

The camera was on sale for $484.00, which is cheaper than Future Shop, London Drugs.
They gave me a free card reader with the purchase of 128M Compact Flash memory. Here is the break down of the price: A70-$434.00, Card Reader - $50.00, 128M - $59.00. No, I didn’t have to haggle for the price. Just asked them to match what they did for me. They were pretty easy going about it. |

I purchased my A70 from outpost.com, and it had all the stickers and proper baggies. One thing about the A70 is that the LCD plastic-mirrored bit is easily scrached, even by wiping it. Perhaps you can check to see if it is in pristine condition out of the box? Light scratching would indicate to me that someone else had owned the camera before. As for the camera in FL, I would almost expect to recieve a previously purchased camera from a place like Target. They'll try to offload anything that's used before selling the new product.

A new camera should always AT LEAST have the protective plastic film sitting over the LCD, as this is something that is always applied during manufacture.
I suspect you've bought a 'factory return'. Take it back to the shop and get them to order you a brand new one from Canon if you aren't happy with the one you have. Good luck. |

I hope you purchased the extended warranty plan from Future shop alongwith the camera. I too purchased the Canon A70 under similar cirumstances.
Like you I was paranoid too; cos the item did not have the stickers and turned out to be an open-box item which I had purchased for $449 Canadian. While in Disneyland; I had the camera in my pant pocket and then it would boot-up got an error E18... thanks to the extended warranty; FS replaced the same for me. |
