Default On the frozen lake

The lake was frozen, and the bird was just lannding on the floating ice. Critiques are welcome.

Camera: Canon 350D
Lens: Canon EF 100-200mm f/4.5
Time: Afternoon
Date: Early March, 2006
Location: Queens, New York

Hi Hudsonch,

I like the timing. However, the image is a little backlit. That made it hard to meter. The shadow was properly exposed, thus causing blown-out highlights. The image would definitely look better if the wing tip wasn't clipped.
Just my 0.02. Hope you get better result next time. Happy shooting.

Yeah, I know. Thanks anyway. Had even tried to use PS to "re-fabricate" the wing tip. Should have tuned down the contrast level in the camera setting before walking into the park. It would be easier to increase the contrast in PS instead of reducing it. If an area is overexposed and has no details inside, PS can't help much.

Great action!

Tip: Try shooting gulls on overcast days....the whites are better handled. And try not to shoot with a midday sun...very harsh light!

The timing is great, a little wider on the framing and you could have gotten both the wingtip and more/all of the reflection from the water.
I like the pose though
