Default Grip Action Ball Head Stiff and Jerky

I have just purchased a Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip action Ball Head. On releasing the ball, tilting forward and back is stiff and jerky at first. Once the initial stiffness is overcome movement is free. This happens each time the ball is released. Is this a fault or are all such heads the same?

Mine also seemed that way at first. After adjusting the tension it is better. I haven't used mine that much but I think you have "to break it in".

You need to adjust the tension, my friend has one.

Thanks for the replies. I have adjusted the tension wheel down to the lightest setting and it is much improved. I think I will keep it now.

I had the same problem with mine. I finally sent it to Manfrotto via my dealer and in 2 weeks they sent me a new one that works great. Seems the 1st one was bad internally all along and just kept getting worse. Send it in !!
