Hey guys, I was just curious do most of you use the 9 points or just primarily the center focus point. I have always used the center on my D60(it only had 3) and I still only use the center on the 30D because I'm concerned that AF will lock on something other that what I'm shooting for. If you use more than the center...why and under what circumstances? Thanks

Mine stays set on Center Point 99% of the time. Lock and recompose if necessary.

I use all 45 points myself. In a pinck I will use only one point. When I had my 300D I used center also most of the time.

It depends on where I want to place my subject in the frame. If it benefits the overall composition to place my subject in the lower left, then I'll choose a focus point in the lower left.

It depends on what? Can you please be more specific. Than again you guys are using the 1D, don't know if that matters compered to the 20/30D.

I only use the center point 99% of the time. I don't find it difficult to lock the focus and exposure then quickly shift the camera to get the ideal framing.
I find this reduces the number of shots where the subject winds up out of focus because with one point, you KNOW where the camera is focusing. |

I only ever use one active AF point at a time, 80% the center..really just depends on the situation.

I use Haoda focusing screen and center point almost all the time..
For moving targets I feel just the same as Jim_T - focusing is much easier when you know exactly where you are.

I will focus and recompose but sometimes I'm afraid that it will lead pictures that could be sharper. It has happened before so I try to select the AF points as much as I can.

20D: I use one point most of the time as well. I find if set on automatic, the focus is off 50% of the time.

Right down the middle for me --- i.e. center 99% of the time.

Centre point of the time, but switch to others if centre point is asking for focus & recompose for a lot of shots repetedly in the same orientation....
