Default Which is better, Flash Ring or Ring Light?

Hi all,
I'm looking on buying one of the Flash Rings for my Canon 20D, but of course I can't afford to get Canon or Sigma Flash Rings, I wonder which other brand are less expensive out there, that can make almost the same jb for Macro photography.
Also which is better, get a Flash Ring which sincronize with the Camera or get a Ring Light which is alwasy light on it?

Thanks!!

I would think a flash would have more power than constant lighting.
