Default Wifee is on to me.

I think my wife is on to my new sigma 70-200. should I panic and confess or stick it out for a few more days and let it ride? If I confess the amount of time served might be reduced if I agree to therapy and electric shock treatment. Nah I'll take my chances.

LOL.. all the guys are soo scared of their wives, cracks me up. I personally think that you should confess, and talk really, really fast about all the attributes of your newest lens, wow her with the specs hopefully you can convince her that it's an extension of your arm and you really had to have it.

LOL, just pic up a Texans cheerleader outfit and tell her how hot/much hotter she's gonna look using the new lens compared to your others.

Let us know if it works out.

Hahahaha, not married yet but under 2 months to go. The only thing she complains about is all the boxes are clogging up the room. I had to ship myself a couple items from my grandfathers place in FL. And been busy buying on ebay (really inexpensive stuff) so lots of boxes comming in. Mostly old bodies for shelf sitters. Some MF lenses since the prices are so low on them now. Did order a Nikon D50 to go along with my 20D , Have all that nikon glass just waiting to get out of the bag. Plus I thought she might like one since I don't share that well.

Once I clean out the boxes, and find a place for everything (which is getting harder and harder). Everything will be just fine. Until the next box rush.

If she figures it out, then show her how much cheaper the Sigma lens was vs the Canon IS model, then you've made an excellent case for saving a substantial sum you can use for other items.

Leave a quote for a Canon 70-200 F/2.8L IS laying around. She'll be GLAD you bought the Sigma.

Be honest. I don't get it - if it's your money, then enjoy your hobby!

Lightbulb Re: Wifee is on to me.

Since when did honesty get a man very far ... other than sitting on the front porch... tossed out, in a pile of his scattered stuff?

What married man was ever allowed to enjoy his hobby, without the wife feeling ignored, rejected or just... indisposed by it? The poll would not be pretty, believe me.

Diplomacy... heavy application of liquor... and her signed agreement (as shaky as it is going to look) on the sales receipt. End of discussion She knew! Okay... maybe not. (The headache might be a dead give away.)

The trick is to involve her as much as possible i'm disovering. A few very flattering pictures of the wife with your new equipment goes a long long way toward funding any new things you need. I went out and bought her about £50 worth of new makeup yesterday so she can model for me while I learn. Next week it's off to the dress shop for some nice new togs. It also has the upside of filling her with confidence about herself, which is never a bad thing
The hobby don't have to be exclusively yours.

We all mean well...

Diogenes was in search of an honest man. The last one died at the hands of his loving wife.

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM has become on of the premiere lenses in wedding shots. It also has become the main piece of "blunt trauma" evidence in voluntary homicides... when she finds out it cost $1600.00

As a criminal defense attorney, and prisoner of a spouse, my advice is to remain silent. Everything you say will be spun and twisted and used against you.

Just be bluntly honest about everything else and they will assume you are about lens purchases too. Works for me.

I also can't believe you lot are so under the thumb.

This probably goes a long way to explaining why I am single. That and the habit of suggesting that I might set fire to meself should things not go to plan, after, of course, flipping out NINJA STYLE and killing everyone in a 50ft vicinity.

Thing is, none of the chaps I know who are married with expensive hobbies seem to have this problem [mostly car nuts] - thier wives just realise that they can't get them out of the garage [or stop them spending money on more aggresive cams/head porting/lightened and balanced bottom end, adjustable Konis, etc...]

I don't understand why any hobby should be any different TBH.

The only person who moans about my expensive habit is my bank manager, but I think listening to her is probably a good idea...

Wow, I really worry about this place, all these threads I read about "my wife found out I bought a new lens and didn't tell her, man, is she pissed."
