I am currently trying out a white zoom. Test shots. I am no fan of zooms, but due to circumstances beyond my control... should I buy it or get the 200mm f2.8L prime?

If I could take a good clear detailed image like this shot I would be very tempted to buy this zoom 70-200mm.The colours and clarity looks spot on.

As you can see from the shutter speeds, both shots were in the shade. I used the RRS clamp, a good monopod and a cable release to give it a fair go. I wanted a 300mm f4 IS. H ehad 2 lenses for sale. I paid for the 300 and he dropped it whilst packing it up to send to me. Hence the trial; buy this or money back or a refurbed 300 when its ready, probably a lot cheaper.

I just checked, you can read the exif. Interestingly the focal length recorded there is 190mm. So its a 70-190mm f2.8...

Hey Carzee... Really nice shots!
Not sure where you are down on that little island, but that is one cool bird. I enjoyed shooting Crimson Rosell'a when I was there. These one's you've captured look to be fattened up ![]() Thanks for sharing these. ---michael |

Very nice shots of the Crimson Rosella. Sharp with good colours. Those I know who own this lens love it.

Great series of shots Carzee. I'm not sure what more the prime would give you.

Great shots !
I'd get the 70-200 zoom. The 200L may be a bit cheaper, lighter, sharper (and it's black), but that big zoom is awesome.....my next lens, IS or without ! |

It looks like a very very good glass carzee,i suppose you are the only one to judge this,as you can have access to 100% crops from the raw files.
