Default skateboard shots

Now that I've figured out how to make my shots under 100K, here are some of my favorite skateboarding shots.

Don't know much about skate shots, but I like how you froze the action on the first one. Maybe some Post Processing would make them sharper. Would be stronger if you lose the guy looking on.

I was thinking the same as Big Will. You need to also get some more height in the shot. If you shoot from underneath them you can see their expression and all!

You got the timing spot on there though, this makes me want to go down to the local skate park and take a few shots!

Thanks. I don't ever care about looking foolish, so I will try laying down next time. I have been having trouble with my shots not looking crisp, not sure why.... I didn't have that issue as much when I first got my camera. Can auto lenses start to lose their effectiveness with time?

Very good pictures, EXCEPT I would like to see their faces as well...

judging by the way they are looking down, it would be difficult, but it would make these good pictures much better IMHO...

Im unsure of the lens you used for the above shots, as im also unaware if the Optex 58mm is a lens or a filter, i thought Optex was to do with video cameras

Your lens query, it may of been the conditions on the day, however you say it didnt happen when you first had it. Have you got a comparison set of images, before and after type thing, so we can cast a look at it.

You may also want to look at a prime canon lens for example, this should create sharper overall pictures for skateboarding for example, might be an idea to look second hand.

Have you been out to take some more shoots yet??

Hope this helps.

Yes, it is Old Mountain! I have more shots (and video) on www.skate-webs.net which is the website idea my son came up with so that his skate friends could have sites. I LOVE shooting there.

You are probably right; that might be the filter I have on there, I will have to look at it again...that's how LITTLE I know about what I'm doing! What is a "prime" lens? I have SO much to learn!!

I have taken more shots and I'm still not happy, but there hasn't been any sun out for months, so it might just be a lighting issue.

A prime lens is a lens with one focal length, the most common is 50mm f1.8. also known as the nifty fifty, it is fairly cheap and gives good overall IQ (image Quality) Worth having a look at one. As you don't seem to have anything smaller than 75mm.

A 70-200 f4L or 70-200 f2.8L will give you the sharpness and clarity that you want as well as having the flexibility of a zoom. The 75-300 is a pretty bad lens.
