Default POTN G-Series Speed Challenge #68 - National Symbols

POTN G-Series Challenge #68 National Symbols~WINNERS

1st Place-Sara ~ US Cemetery (Normandy, France)
I'm sure this cemetery was quite emotional and thought-provoking to visit and your photo certainly evokes both of those elements. I really like how the main cross, outlined by the sky, juts out of the bottom of the frame and demands attention. Powerful image, well done.

2nd Place-3Dart ~ Miles Per Gallon
With the dishonorable distinction of being the world's largest oil consumer, America is home to huge vehicles, wide open spaces, and never-ending highways. You captured all three in one photo - congrats! The steering wheel at the bottom of the frame and the perfectly postioned diesel makes this potentially average photo, great.

3rd Place-KC Jewel ~ Welcome to Ensenada
Flags are probably one of the most recognizable national symbols and this is one impressive flag. First, I'm not a big fan of centering main subjects but I think it works quite well in this shot. The blue sky, generous wind, interesting boats in the foreground, and scenic mountains in the distance makes this shot special, not to mention that beautiful Mexican flag. You've done your southern neighbors proud, KC Jewel.

I apologize for not being able to comment on each of your photos. It's bedtime here and I have a 14 hour day ahead of me. I will add a few more comments later in the week. I truly enjoyed the wide ranging photos. Sara, it's your turn.

POTN G-Series Challenge #68 National Symbols

Each country has something which we identify it with. In effect, we use these symbols to help differentiate from other countries and in many cases, they help instill a sense of national awareness. It could be a well known monument, food, a famous export, a clothing style, an aspect of the country's heritage, etc. Of course, it doesn't have to be your own country. More importantly, I'll especially be looking for creative interpretations of the theme. And before you begin searching through your hard drives for that perfect photo of the Great Wall of China that you took back in 2001, I strongly urge you to take time out and at least try to take a fresh photo. Even if it doesn't turn out to be the photo you submit, you'll be a better photographer for having tried. Best of luck to you all - see you next Monday. Brandon
