I just ordered a Canon 430ex today. I can't wait to start shoot and learning. I miss the larger flash. I had a basic thyristor flash for my old Point & Shoot and miss the power.
It will be nice to have a fairly powerful flash that can comunicate with the camera. The next item on my want list is the Canon 10-22mm Lens. I do a lot of landscape pictures and this lens would be a dream to me. |

Be careful using them together, the Canon units only cover to 17mm and that's with the diffuser panel down! Otherwise you need a different diffuser or bounce flash.

So, when I order the Tokina 12-24, if I use it with the 430EX I just need to stay away from anything closer than 17mm. Right? |

I have a 580ex and I can't see why the 430ex would be a wider angle myself though. Graham

And take into account the 1.6x factor.
So, at 10mm, it's really a 16mm lens for the flash. Should work. But better use bounced flash when using wide lenses.

No issues using this combination - 350D, 430EX with wide panel down, and 10-22. I believe the numbers refer to 35mm equivalent, that would make the most sense.

I spent the extra money for a 580ex just because of my 10-22. I bought the 10-22 first and found that my 420ex just didnt have enought wide angle coverage and went out and bought a 580ex. Inside the results are amazing with a 580ex at 10mm.

I just received my 430EX. Now it's time to learn how to use it. Now I'm saving my money for the 10-22 Lens.

Blue max is right, it's 14mm for both the 430 and 580.
