Default up to 1/250 sec need a external flash ??

i try to set a speed 1/400 sec with a built in flash is on..
but it`s automatically back into 1/250.

but if a built in flash is off, i can set speed up to 1/250.

does speed up to 1/250 need an external flash ??

To go over 1/250 you need a high speed synch (external) flash like the EX420! At this time you expose for the background and you use the fill flash, usefull for pics in the sun to avoid heavy contrast.
