Default Los Angeles Equestrian Grandprix

I went to the Los Angeles Equestrian Grandprix on Memorial Day and took some shots. I used my Sigma 70-200, but added the 2x TC for the first half to get the reach on the opposite side of the field. It was my first attempt such event and was very difficult to get good shots. Most of the time, I got the shots too late when the front legs of the horse almost touching the ground, and a few were too early. There were 3 trees on the way, so the view was also limited. Anyway, here are two shots and the rest can be seen here. C&C are welcome. http://kaitcilla.smugmug.com/gallery/1518244.

Thank you both for compliment. I like the first one too. You can see the jockey (I was told that they are not called "jockey" as in the horse racing) looking to the next jump and get ready.

I think you did a great job! Equestrian does take a little getting used to, but once you get good positions angles it works out better. Really like your shots on smug mug, including the candids.

Nicely done..... good backgrounds as well.... though I know my wife would hit me if I had taken the second shot bacause of the "only" area that is in focus. But I really like the overall effect.

Thank you. I've been shooting with a local group on weekends for the last couple of months, and it has helped me a lot.

Linda, I really like your equestrian shots. As you mentioned above, you had good positions and angles, and it made the shots a lot better. Have you tried panning? I like shooting both freezing the jump and panning.

That's very funny Mark. I swear that wasn't intentional. I just used the center focus point with AI servo, so whatever happened to be at the center will be WELL focused.
