Default (Non tourist type) Places to take photographs in New York City

Hello,

I am a long time visitor to the forums, but this is my first post. I hope this is the correct place on the forum to post this. I am from Canada, currently working in New York City for the summer, so I in a way I am a tourist here on a long term basis.

I have a question for you New York photographers, I'm sure you agree with me that this is a great place for taking photographs.

My question to you all is, are there any good (non touristy) type places that a typical tourist would not know about that would be good places to photograph?

I am really open to shooting anything. I am trying to take as many photographs during my stay here and hope to get the most of this experience in this great city.

Compared to all of you on the forums, I'm hardly a pro (I still have much to learn) but I love taking photographs. I hope to learn more from you now and in the future!

Thank you for your time.

The Cloisters. It's part of the Met, and it's a a museum of of European Middle Ages art and architecture. It shows it's pieces in context of where they would have been, so it was built as sort of a neo-middle ages monk's cloisters. It's in Tryon State Park, with beautiful views of the Hudson and New Jersey (I know it's hard to imagine that there are beauutiful views of New Jersey).

Just be aware that the subway there goes through some really bad neighborhoods, so plan your trip ahead of time, and plan to be out of there before dark, if that makes you uncomfortable. The museum subway stop is in the middle of the park, and perfectly safe, but the surroundings outside the park are not great.
