Default FOCUS TESTS: Multiple Lenses Multiple Results Help

Ok, so I recently realized that some of my photos were quite a bit less focused than most photographers with similar equip/experience. First, I thought my 350d was at fault, so I did some focus testing. It appears in fact each of my lenses are slightly off:

50 1.8 ) 1 mm front
85 1.8 ) 1 or 2 mm back
28-105 ) 8 mm front , this one has been dead for a while, and is no longer under warranty

Does this indicate that the camera body is not to blame, and my lenses need indivual adjustment.

Also, how much does calibration for an out of warranty lens cost?

Thanks

Your numbers aren't useful without context.

Do the tests on a tripod, 5 times each, manually refocusing the camera way off between shots. Use a cable release or the timer. The 50mm F1.8 is a very inaccurate lens in terms of focus, calibration often won't help. Post a 100% crop of the most representive image for each lens.

If some of your lenses are front and others are back-focusing, then yes, the lenses will have to be sent in for calibration with the specific body. You should call Canon, but they will likely tell you that they don't know the price until they have the lens in hand to check/verify for the actual work needed.

Of the 5 lenses I've already sent in for cleaning & recalibration, only two were out of warranty...the cost to clean & calibrate those were in-line with my expectations.

I'd be surprised if 1mm or 2mm isn't within the AF tolerance. It's not a perfect system.
